The Revolver Specialist!
Why should you train with Grant Cunningham?
Pragmatism, that’s why.
What do I mean by that? I’ve taken a bunch of shooting classes over the years, and it’s amazing how many of them teach things that aren’t practical (or even applicable) for the lives that we lead. It’s easy to find courses teaching techniques/procedures/ideas from military, law enforcement or competition shooting - and which make absolutely no sense in the world of private sector self defense. What works for a group of heavily prepared men who are ready to fight and can call in air strikes when things go bad may not be (and probably isn’t) what works for you defending yourself or your family.
Instead, I focus on skills that actually fit into our daily lives: urban, suburban, or rural. What do you do when you’re standing at a food cart, trying to decide between beef or chicken in your sandwich, when you’re suddenly surprised by someone threatening your life? How do you deal with an unanticipated incident on your homestead, one where you need to run into the house to grab your rifle? How do you defend yourself inside of your home when you don’t carry a handgun every waking moment? These are the things that military/law enforcement/competition shooting techniques simply don’t address, because they assume that you’re just like them: gun in hand, fully outfitted, steely eyed and ready to go.
I don’t know about you, but that’s not how I live my life. I don’t believe that you have to become some stereotypical Tactical Timmy (or Tactical Tammy, as the case may be) wearing the latest in camo underwear just to learn how to protect yourself. Instead, I believe that your defensive training should enable you to lead a happy and fulfilling life, not interfere with it or take it over.
Don't misunderstand - this doesn't mean that I teach the kind of watered down target shooting stuff that you find in the majority of "CCW" classes these days! I don't believe that a student needs to start with an irrelevant curriculum, only to be told to come back for an "advanced" class to learn how to actually protect themselves. I do believe that when you leave a class, the skills you've learned should be immediately applicable if you're mugged in the parking lot. Telling the bad guy "wait, I won't learn how to efficiently draw from a holster until I take two more classes!" isn't part of my philosophy.
That’s why I teach what I teach: plausible skills, for real people, leading real lives. If you want a fantasy weekend where you get to play soldier or cop with your guns, or if you just want to know which end the bullets come out, there are lots of other places you can go. If, however, you want to spend your limited training time and money learning skills that are actually of value to you and the way you live, skills that you can use immediately, if necessary, to save your life, come train with me!
